You raised over $14,900 for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth!
Where will I sleep tonight? How will I get food after school? These are the questions many of our youth had to ask themselves every day. When you are focused on survival, it is hard to succeed in school.
For two weekends in January, Promise House and the Metro Dallas Homeless Alliance Youth Committee teamed up to bring homeless youth out of the shadows.
“After sitting vacant for the past five years, the Fannie C. Harris Elementary School building will soon be a home for homeless students in the Dallas Independent School District. Promise House will use its expertise as a youth shelter to run this new location.”
“Promise House is a shelter for teens in the LGBTQ community.”
“‘This is an opportunity to connect all the dots and leave no stone unturned,’ said Dr. Ashley Lind, CEO of Promise House, which shelters at-risk kids who, among other things, have been turned out of their homes or run away.”
“The event at Promise House, a nonprofit battling youth homelessness, aimed to show donors the reality for more than 1,200 homeless kids and teens on Dallas streets every night.”
“More than 30 volunteers spent the night outside Promise House in Dallas, in the rain, with sleeping bags and cardboard boxes. They raised more than $90,000 to help homeless young people through Promise House, which provides shelter for homeless youth and provides long term programs to help them get back on their feet.”
“‘In particular, you even hear less about youth homelessness. A lot of people don’t even know that it exists. And the reason for that is when kids are out on the street their really scared, they are scared, and they’re very vulnerable so they tend to hide,’ said Timothy Fisher, Promise House Board Member and Event Chairman.”
